ArianeGroup is the prime contractor for the European, now "retired" Ariane 5, and Ariane 6 launcher families and is responsible for both development and the entire production chain up to commercialization through its subsidiary Arianespace, as well as for the rockets of the French Oceanic Deterrent Force.

ArianeGroup and its subsidiaries are known worldwide as specialists in equipment and propulsion systems for space applications, and their expertise also benefits other industries. The Group is a joint venture equally owned by Airbus and Safran and employs around 8,000 highly skilled people in France and Germany. In developing and implementing innovative and competitive solutions for civil launchers and satellite technology, ArianeGroup attaches particular importance to the highest technical standards in order to secure Europe's access to space.

In the context of its pre-development activities, ArianeGroup GmbH in Bremen (Germany) aims to optimize future launch vehicles as well as launch vehicle modules by implementing lightweight concepts for the upper stage but also transfer vehicle. Carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) brings competitive advantages and is a key pillar in ArianeGroup products while exposed to extreme conditions (e.g. cold & hot environments). Within the team Advanced Technologies, Materials and Concepts, innovative technologies and materials i.a. joining processes are investigated and evaluated regarding future application in e.g. cryogenic composite tanks. Different projects offer topics for an internship and/or a master thesis regarding experimental testing activities and mechanical analysis with focus on materials science.


For the Pre-developments Germany department "JTFG" at the location Bremen, we are looking for a mandatory Intern (Engineer Internship) (f/m/d) to support us in full time (35h/week) with immediate effect.

Your main tasks and activities:

  • Contribution to ArianeGroup projects

  • Literature survey on new materials and technologies especially composites and polymers in cryogenic environment

  • Planning of experimental material tests and exchange with suppliers

  • Performance of material characterization

  • Performance of structural analyses and drawings if needed

  • Technologies evaluations for selected applications

You have the following qualifications:

  • Enrolled master student with a strong scientific or engineering background (e.g. Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Composite Engineering or Materials Science)

  • Interest and knowledge in Materials Science (especially CFRP)

  • Experience in laboratory work (e.g. destructive or non-destructive material testing)

  • Structural analysis skills with knowledge of the related simulation tools and CAD skills would be beneficial

  • Fluency in English language, knowledge of German language would be beneficial
